Prior to any experiment being flown, the crew of the ISS Expedition must undergo an Informed Consent Briefing (ICB). See more details on the ICB in our previous post.
Once the crew indicate their participation as subjects of the experiment, formalized training on the hardware and software is implemented into the L-6 months of their 2-year ISS Expedition training flow.
